First Car Rental waivers now cover gravel roads
SA's first choice in car hire, First Car Rental, has adjusted its terms and conditions to now also cover gravel roads in its waivers. Only First Car Rental vehicles suitable for gravel road travel, the 4x4s, are covered. Damage caused by driver negligence on gravel roads isn't covered, nor is third party vehicle damage.
First Car Rental's Liability Waivers are not insurance policies but a service courtesy, which may reduce drivers' liability (as outlined in the agreement).
Please note that waivers differ between car hire companies so please always ensure you check what you are covered for and always read the Rental Agreement terms and conditions.
First Car Rental Waivers
Waivers are agreements between the Rental Company and renters, and generally limit the claim against a renter in the event of loss of or damage to the vehicle.
Most daily rental rates include some form of the available waivers such as theft protection, collision damage waivers. Liability waivers may also be included in the official rates recorded in T&Cs clause 4.1.1.
First Car Rental's waiver amendment doesn't cover any damage or loss caused by potholes, water, or damage caused by roads not suitable for the type of vehicle rented. Waivers also don't cover dirt roads.
When travelling on gravel roads, drivers need to be extra vigilant, stay well within the speed limit and avoid negligent driving.
Drivers must obey all rules of the road and do their utmost to avoid vehicle damage, loss or theft. The vehicle is the driver's responsibility for the entire rental period, and needs to be returned in the same condition, fair wear and tear excepted.
