  • Q1: In what year did you join First Car Rental and what was your position?

    A: In 1999 as Financial Manager.

  • Q2: What do you like most about First Car Rental?

    A: Very different to retail - highly motivated people.

  • Q3: When are you most satisfied in your job?

    A: When things go right.

  • Q4: As Executive Head of your department how do you go about establishing your credibility quickly with a team?

    A: You have to work WITH them and be there for them. You have to show early on that you are competent and, at the end of the day, you are ultimately responsible for their output.

  • Q5: How would you describe your work style?

    A: Predominantly autocratic.

  • Q6: What would be your ideal working environment?

    A: Under palm trees on the beach.

  • Q7: What do you look for in terms of culture - structured or entrepreneurial?

    A: Structured.

  • Q8: What techniques and tools do you use to keep yourself organised?

    A: Desk calendar and a strict regime of sticking to deadlines. Also use IT related tools to achieve this. I use my own brain and experience.

  • Q9: If you had to choose one, would you consider yourself a big-picture person or a detail-oriented person?

    A: Actually both, but tend toward detail.

  • Q10: Who has impacted you most in your career and how?

    A: In the car hire environment certainly Bruce Barritt. He has invaluable experience and an amazing gut feel for the industry.

  • Q11: What kind of personality do you work best with and why?

    A: A motivated individual who has a natural ability to work as a team. This promotes harmony in the workplace.

  • Q12: What is your proudest achievement within work?

    A: Promotion to Executive Head of Finance at First Car Rental.

  • Q13: What are your strengths?

    A: Administration.

  • Q14: What are your weaknesses?

    A: I am a perfectionist - this creates problems in the real world (which is not perfect).

  • Q15: What was the most difficult period in your life, and how did you deal with it?

    A: My mom's terminal leukaemia and ultimate death. I accepted the inevitability of our ultimate destiny and with this acceptance comes peace.

  • Q16: What irritates you about other people, and how do you deal with it?

    A: I dislike sulking especially in my family. I am forthright and deal with issues head on.

  • Q17: List five words that describe your character.

    A: Perfectionist, loyal, honest, motivated, kind

  • Q18: What is your greatest fear?

    A: I dislike the supernatural - those things that are not tangible.

  • Q19: What is your greatest achievement outside of work?

    A: My 8hr 26min Comrades Marathon. I only completed 7 Comrades Marathons - I wish I had completed 10 to get a green number.

  • Q20: Tell me the difference between good and exceptional?

    A: Good should be the norm - exceptional is that extra mile (or two).

  • Q21: If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

    A: Switzerland

  • Q22: What's the last book you read?

    A: Spud

  • Q23: What magazines do you subscribe to?

    A: None

  • Q24: What's the best movie you've seen in the last year?

    A: The King's Speech.

  • Q25: What would you do if you won the lottery?

    A: Invest the majority. Maybe go on an overseas holiday with a small portion

    A: I love walking.
