Lanseria Airport to Introduce Self-Service Bag-Drop

August 2017- At the end of August, Lanseria International Airport will introduce a self-service bag-drop, becoming the first airport in South Africa to do so.

SITA Bag-drop

With SITA's Scan&Fly self-service bag-drop, passengers who have checked in online or on their phone, will be able to weigh their bags, tag them and 'drop them' at the self-service check-in counter, before proceeding directly to the gate, and without having to visit a traditional staffed check-in counter.

Lanseria is also making use of SITA's Airport iValidate system, which will allow the airport security checkpoint agents and officers the ability to scan both paper and mobile bar-coded boarding passes (BCBPs).

The boarding pass is checked for duplicates and is validated against flight information within an excel spreadsheet, or from an airport operational database (AODB), or from a flight information display system (FIDS).

"We look forward to piloting the innovative technology at the airport with our technology partner SITA, which will go live at the end of August 2017 - all in the interest of saving time and offering our passengers peace of mind when checking in to fly from our airport, especially as we gain momentum in the construction of our Multi-Storey Parkade," says Rampa Rammopo CEO of Lanseria International Airport.
